A Heart Full of Headstones

For the many fans of Rebus and those who enjoy gritty Scottish noir.

The Dark Remains

An essential purchase to complete crime fiction collections or where international police novels are popular.

In a House of Lies

The 22nd Rebus title (after Rather Be the Devil) finds the usual suspects and old friends: Rebus, Clarke, Fox, Cafferty, et al. Newcomers to the series may be drawn in by the plot twists, pithy dialog, and dark underside of Edinburgh, but readers of the previous entries will enjoy a deeper appreciation of the intricacies of the relationships and events.

Rather Be the Devil

This may be the author's (Even Dogs in the Wild) 21st series outing, but the thrill is still fresh. Fans may be more comfortable with the myriad backstories and established characters, but newcomers can still appreciate this entry. For readers who like police procedurals such as Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series. [See Prepub Alert, 7/25/16.]

Even Dogs in the Wild

Recommended for all crime and mystery collections.

Saints of the Shadow Bible

Edgar Award winner Rankin's intricate plot and well-developed characters make this novel a must-read for Rankin fans, who will especially enjoy the Rebus-Fox matchup. By effectively recapping pertinent prior novels in the series, the author makes his latest title and his enigmatic protagonist accessible to new readers. [Eight-city tour.]

Knots and Crosses

First published in 1987, this was the first novel in Rankin's popular series. It will attract Rankin fans who may want to experience it in audio, as well as new fans of the series.

Standing in Another Man's Grave

Fans of this landmark series, now in its 25th year, will cry "Hosannah!" at Rebus's triumphal return. That the mandatory retirement age for the police force has been raised and Rebus is thinking of re-upping (if he can pass the physical) bode well for the future. As Arthur Conan Doyle might attest, it's bloody hard to keep a good detective down. [See Prepub Alert, 7/15/12.]
