Em Eldridge narrates Wilson’s (Cinder-Nanny) latest, a fake-relationship contemporary romance featuring a cosmetic chemist and her company’s CEO. After finding out that Craig, her former boss, is engaged, Anna does what anyone hopelessly in love with him would do—gets drunk on champagne and confesses her love for Craig to a stranger. The only problem is that this stranger is none other than Craig’s older brother, Marco. Wanting to save his family’s company from his brother’s gold-digging fiancée, Marco suggests a fake dating plan so both he and Anna get what they want. As time goes by, however, Anna starts to question her feelings for both brothers. Eldridge’s buoyant performance is full of energy but uneven. Her narration captures Anna’s naivete, and she uses her skills in differentiating between characters to give each a unique voice befitting their personalities. Even so, the final syllables of phrases are frequently drawn out and overly emphasized, an affectation that listeners may find distracting. Additionally, even though Eldridge’s voice isn’t unpleasant, it occasionally sounds somewhat digitally altered.
VERDICT While the overall production is serviceable, too many audio quirks make this a nonessential purchase.
