This disappointing installment in Brogan’s “Trillium Bay” series sees youngest daughter Lilly reluctantly moving back to her Great Lakes hometown after a breakup. But, like in all good romances, a new love interest is introduced early in the book. While Brogan half-heartedly hints at a love triangle, the choice between beaus is clear to both Lilly and the reader; it only adds hiccups to an already eye-rolling plot. Lilly’s attempt to find love is balanced out by the shenanigans of a picture-perfect, small-town gossip mill; a Hollywood film production; and Lilly’s close-knit family—introduced in My Kind of You and My Kind of Forever.
VERDICT This cookie-cutter, will-they-or-won’t-they romance plods along according to formula, with love then marriage then a baby as the rule. Lilly’s narration can be quite mean at times, and the saccharine plot prompts a sugar rush. Skip it unless your romance collection is desperate for feel-good stories.
