McKenna’s fourth installment in the “Stella and Lyndy” series (after
Murder at Keyhaven Castle) opens just after sleuthing couple Stella and Lyndy have married. The newlyweds arrive at the Majestic Hotel for their honeymoon, only to find that another guest occupies the honeymoon suite they had booked. After an unsuccessful attempt to reclaim their rooms, they settle into the suite across the hall, but late-night arguments and altercations in the hallway disturb their rest. In the morning, the occupant of the honeymoon suite is found dead, and the secret recipe for his company’s famous chocolate is missing. Even as explosions, murder, and extortion follow, Stella and Lyndy rise to the occasion to help find the killer and the thief while trying to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding countryside. Narrator Sarah Zimmerman enlivens the text with excellent pacing and spot-on British accents.
VERDICT Although it may be best appreciated by fans of the series, the intricate plot and entertaining characters make this a recommended listen for all. Share with those who like Claudia Gray, Jessica Fellowes, and Rhys Bowen.
