Between Two Strangers

White (The Second Husband) relies too much on coincidence and uncertainty in this psychological suspense novel that is low in tension. Several characters are primed to be more threatening, but little develops, leaving the plot curiously flat. For readers who like a puzzle with a twist.

White (The Fiancée) establishes a pervasive uneasy tone, ending chapters with cliffhangers and small revelations that propel this domestic suspense tale to an intense penultimate scene. The final chapter, though, is unexpectedly flat as it ties up story threads. For fans of Hallie Ephron.

The Fiancée

White (The Secrets You Keep) creates a twisty family drama that maintains subdued tension as Summer seeks answers. While the novel is not exceptional, and the conclusion takes too long to wrap up dangling details, it is a welcome addition to popular fiction collections.

Have You Seen Me?

White spends much time describing fancy apartments and houses, what characters are wearing, what they eat and drink, some of which her readers expect and enjoy, but in this outing it tends to slow down the narrative Still, White’s ability to write realistic characters and twisty plots make this worthwhile. Readers who appreciate investigative reporters caught up in dramatic stories, such as James Ziskin's "Ellie Stone" series or Thomas Kies's "Geneva Chase" mysteries, will savor this intense page-turner that never lets up.
