The Goodbye Coast: A Philip Marlowe Novel

Recommended for all public libraries. Listeners will be gripped till the last loose end is tied up and eager to follow should Ide bring Marlowe back again.

Readers will need to pay careful attention to keep all of Ide’s players straight, but the gritty action and sardonic humor will be sure to grab all IQ fans. Libraries with the previous four installments will want this one.

Hi Five

With a convoluted plot that is hard to keep straight, as well as numerous overt political screeds against the current administration, Ide’s fourth IQ novel (Wrecked; Righteous) forsakes a winning cast and excellent storytelling for something less satisfying than a compelling mystery. [See Prepub Alert, 7/8/19.]

This work is grittier and coarser than previous titles in the series. Gone is the amusing banter between Dodson and IQ; instead, readers are subjected to numerous and explicit torture scenes, ranging from Abu Ghraib to current-day California. Purchase only where the series has a strong following. [See Prepub Alert, 4/23/18.]

Righteous: An IQ Novel

A winning combination of skillful writing and flawless pacing, this second series outing is packed with adrenaline-inducing scenes along with a colorful cast of violent and treacherous villains. [See Prepub Alert, 4/10/17; "Editors' Fall Picks," p. 32.]

With a definite nod to Sherlock Holmes and the wonders of inductive reasoning, Ide's freshman novel introduces an intriguing new detective with staying power who will be a certain hit with fans of urban-set crime fiction. [See Prepub Alert, 4/25/16.]
