Jen and Riley have been best friends since childhood. Riley, who is Black, is a successful television journalist, while Jen, who is white, is a receptionist, pregnant, and married to a cop. When Jen’s husband is involved in the shooting death of an unarmed Black teenager and Riley is immersed in coverage of the story, the friendship becomes fraught. Can their bond survive? This story focuses on the struggles of the main characters, and secondary characters are really on the sideline. Marin Ireland and Shayna Small do a great job of embodying each character, providing perspective and insight while revealing their deeper issues. The cast is rounded out by Kevin R. Free and Chanté McCormick in supporting roles.
