When aspiring actress and Shopping Channel host Dana Barry attends a company rooftop party and attempts to convince the CEO that the struggling channel should sell skincare products, he isn’t interested. However, the married man does show interest in her—and not the platonic kind. But the big boss’s come-on is the least of Dana’s worries, after she blacks out at the party, and the CEO ends up dead, having apparently been pushed off the roof. No one saw it happen—could Dana have done it? Her boyfriend, a homicide detective, can’t give her any information about the case, so she doesn’t even know if she’s a suspect. Throw in job uncertainty, the perils of snooping while trying to conduct a secret investigation, and some family issues, and Dana’s life is one big stressful mess to clean up.
VERDICT Meister’s follow-up to Love Sold Separately is a fast and fun read with an engaging heroine and supporting cast. The author briefly recaps Dana’s backstory, so readers don’t need to read the first installment (although they may want to after reading this). For fans of rom-coms or light murder mysteries.
