Ria, Vanessa, and Allison each have separate evening plans on the night a blackout strikes their city. Each woman finds herself trapped with either the object of her desires or her perceived nemesis. They find that sometimes it is easier to see someone clearly in the dark. In Wilde’s “Night at the Museum,” art restorer Ria is stuck in the Metropolitan Museum of Art overnight with her neighborhood crush; Oliveras’s “Lights Out” pits a Broadway actor against his most outspoken critic; and Skilton’s “Mind Games” finds a woman taking revenge against a magician she knew in college.
VERDICT The quick stories compliment each other, while fulfilling their own narratives. Readers looking for short summer romances would do well to pick up this latest anthology.
