In this three-part drama, Brady (Cary Elwes) is an unhappy, martini-swilling novelist with a fading career who lives in a big house. In "Chapter 1," he shares the house with his flirtatious assistant Charlotte (Briana Evigan), a wannabe writer who mostly just nags Brady about reading her novella. In "Chapter 2, The Publicist," Charlotte has departed, having sold her book to Brady, who is passing it off as his own. Replacing Charlotte is the eccentric Carla (Karen Black). Enter Marcy (Caitlin Keats) to prepare Brady for a book promotion (Charlotte's book, of course). The drama takes a surprising turn when both Marcy and Carla die. In "Chapter 3, The Keeper," Brady (now on the wagon) becomes involved with Beth (Joey Lauren Adams), his real estate agent, and Amy (Lisa Edelstein), the prospective buyer of his mansion.
VERDICT This film has an identity crisis. The change of tone from chapter to chapter—from a kind of comedy to serious drama to romance— is bewildering. Not recommended.
