When a Scottsdale summer heat wave turns people's appetites toward ice cream, Mel and Angie get creative, combining an invitation to sell their cupcakes at a Texas rodeo with Oz's refurbished food truck. But dead bodies seem to follow Mel around. The opening parade had barely passed when their host Slim Hazard was shot, but at least he lived to tell the tale. The big rodeo star, obnoxious though he is, is not so lucky. At first it appears as though an escaped bull did the dirty deed, but then Angie trips over the murder weapon. Despite the location change, the whole series' gang make an appearance, even Olivia Puckett. Susan Boyce drawls Texas onto the map. Her accents are stereotypical, but that does not make them less effective.
VERDICT Although the audiobook doesn't contain the recipes included in the print book, the story is entertaining, and libraries will find a strong readership for this latest installment of culinary mysteries.
