This is a very good first novel, excellently read by Jeremy Bobb. Fresh from some down time in a Mexican prison and home in the Colorado mountains for the first time in 16 years, Clyde Barr gets a frantic phone call from his sister Jen asking him to rescue her from dangers unknown. The line goes dead, and the adventure begins. The West, it seems, is still very, very wild. It's full of cruel drug lords who will stop at nothing, including kidnapping, to have their way. As a soldier of fortune (retired), Clyde has the necessary skills, self-reliance, and bravado to try to get Jen back. She's family, and he owes her big time. Great car and horseback chases, excellent ambushes, and even a little sex make this is an excellent thriller.
VERDICT Highly recommended for adult audio collections, although some characters are way over the top. Listeners will wonder why the law doesn't come after Clyde himself for his part in the mayhem.
