Maggie Griffin is content with her life in Boston. She teaches at a private day school, and she and her actor boyfriend Evan seem fully committed. However, the wedding preparations for her best friend Erika mark a turning point. Maggie's friends are getting married, buying houses, and getting ready to have babies. When Maggie's job is threatened, Evan is paired with a hot model in his TV show, and Erika's plans for a ceremony in Boston are thrown into turmoil. It's time for Maggie to reevaluate her situation. Perhaps returning home to Mystic, CT, for the wedding and comfort time will help. Instead, Maggie becomes even more confused when she runs into her high school sweetheart Cameron, who now owns a business and is a father. Suddenly, Maggie finds being in Mystic more appealing than Boston.
VERDICT McKinnon's second novel (after The Lake Season) features characters who must look past short-term happiness to build a future. New adults and women's fiction fans will find this book appealing. It's a novel for twentysomethings facing major decisions including love, marriage, first apartments, jobs, houses, and the decision whether or not to have children.
