This latest novel from Clark (Reluctantly Home) is a pleasant book with an easily solved mystery. In 1985, friendship forms among three very different college students. Angie, a free spirit with no real career aspirations, will end up as a Reiki therapist. Studious Maggie will begin a brilliant career in law. Leon, who has untapped musical gifts, will live a quiet suburban life, married with children. Add in Tiger, a friend of Angie’s who lives a nomadic lifestyle, going where the winds blow him, and the book sets the stage to follow the four friends as they grow up and take different paths. Angie eventually becomes a single mother, but then in an unfortunate turn of events, she develops cancer and passes away. Her will assigns tasks to each of her friends as they help her daughter, Romany, make it through her final year of high school before going to college. But the will adds a new person too, named Hope, and the friends question why she is part of the parenting circle.
VERDICT Give to readers who enjoy domestic fiction with just a hint of conflict.
