Happy All the Time

Vincent and Guido, best friends and third cousins, consider themselves intellectuals. They don’t expect to fall in love, but when they meet Holly and Misty, they are thrust into the world of romance. Not one of the four individuals really wants to be in love or is interested in settling down, but here they are, experiencing all the ups and downs of adulthood, relationships, and life. This classic novel from Colwin (Shine On, Bright and Dangerous Object), originally published in 1978, is given new life by narrator Lisa Flanagan. The angst of being young is something that transcends generations, and Flanagan’s narration brings the quirks of each of the characters to the 21st century, making them easily relatable to modern listeners, even with the lack of the social media, cell phones, and other modern technologies. The carefree attitude of the characters toward life in general also offers small moments of humor that will have listeners unexpectedly chuckling to themselves.
