Like molting birds, both Kit and Wren are in a season of change. They must lose their current identities, make it through the ugly times, and hopefully enter into a new and even more glorious time. Kit is embarking on her retirement. After a lifetime of ministry, she finds she continues to be led spiritually to expand and reflect on what she has done so far and where she will be led next. Wren is emerging from a period of loss and depression. Wren finds that she must seek new direction as she realizes she cannot return to the career and calling she previous dedicated herself to. Together these two find that this shared struggle can provide insight and wisdom.
VERDICT Tough spiritual and societal issues are addressed in this new installment making for a difficult, if necessary read. A strong addition for libraries with large spiritual collections and fans of Brown’s “Sensible Shoes” series.
