In Gombinsky’s interesting and sometimes confusing take on the zombie genre, the main characters are Nate and Lilith, two friends who both have a mysterious past that makes them uniquely suited to handling the rapidly worsening zombie uprising. Their adventures and creepy pasts are dramatically unfurled over the course of the seeming end of the world. With whiplash scenes and an almost psychedelic story structure, the book can be a little challenging. Even readers who love the zombie genre may have trouble getting onboard with the wildly vacillating style of zombies and a plot that can be difficult to track.
VERDICT Suggest Joe McKinney’s Dead World Resurrection or Shawn Chesser’s The Promise instead.
