Mewshaw’s account, especially of Greene’s last years, is moving and perceptive. This lovely book can be read alongside Richard Greene’s The Unquiet Englishman: A Life of Graham Greene.
While this is not—nor is it meant to be—a full examination of Vidal's life and work, it does add another layer to the multifaceted story of an American original, a tale still being unveiled, that will interest Vidal fans. [See Prepub Alert, 7/7/14.]
