Dig deep with architects, librarians, and vendors to explore building/renovating/ retrofitting spaces both large and small that will redefine the relationship with your users and engage your community.

Library Journal invites you and your safety and facilities heads to join other directors and safety and facilities leaders from major North American library systems, to learn about best practices from within and outside the library field. We’ll explore and workshop effective approaches and real-life examples, as well as address legal, technical, policy, staffing and training challenges.

In libraries large and small, a strong approach to youth services fuels a first, fundamental relationship that can be lifelong. A strong strategy prioritizes early development around multiple literacies, connections that support and complement school curricula, and programming and collections that inspire independent reading, thinking, and creation.

The past few years have brought unprecedented challenges to libraries and librarians, and the end seems nowhere in sight. From COVID to book bans and politically fueled personal attacks on librarians, creating and fostering a resilient workplace in the library is a daunting objective. This high-level, two-day Summit will seek to address successful and actionable approaches to addressing many of the largest challenges facing libraries today and in the foreseeable future.

And we’re especially excited to be hosting it in partnership with New York Public Library at its newly renovated central circulating branch, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library.

Come join LJ for cocktails, light refreshments, and great conversation with a dozen notable authors, who will be interviewed by Barbara Hoffert, Prepub Alert Editor, LJ, about their forthcoming titles.

The annual Library Journal Directors' Summit is an intimate two-day think tank that brings 100+ library leaders and strategic minds from beyond libraries to engage in timely conversations on strategies libraries will be implementing to successfully navigate change now and into the future. 

This full-day event provides expert panel discussions with librarians and architects, as well as hands-on architect-led breakout sessions dealing with real-life design challenges submitted in advance by you and your fellow attendees. There will also be 15-20 minute “speed-sessions” with individual architects and furniture and equipment vendors so you can address your own library-specific questions and concerns (be sure to bring photos, illustrations, floor plans, or plat maps--whatever you think will enhance the discussion). There will be plenty of facetime and networking opportunities throughout the day with colleagues, too.
