Osofsky and Groves, clinical practitioners and authors of numerous publications in the area of childhood exposure to violence, connect these two volumes by first focusing on types of trauma such as the loss of a parent or a parent's military deployment. The second book examines ways that child services can be improved, such as the chapter "Addressing Child Trauma Within the Child Welfare System." The last two sections consider policy initiatives and opportunities. Each chapter includes a list of references for further research. This wide-ranging work also tackles childhood sexual abuse, the effects of violence on young people's development, and the impact of war.
