While other educational research publications concentrate on how to conduct, assess, measure, and evaluate research projects, this well-written, alphabetically arranged title, from editor Frey (educational psychology, Univ. of Kansas, Sch. of Education; There's a Stat for That! Modern Classroom Assessment) takes a broader, encyclopedic approach to the topic. More than 700 entries tackle everything from types of learners to testing methods to research issues, plus current print and nonprint bibliographies. Contributors are mostly academics, though some work in the private sector. The reader's guide supports broad topic access, and "see also" references appear within the body and index. The ebook edition offers a database interface, search box, and the print edition's (not seen) table of contents and index, complete with volume and page numbers. The online interface can be set to show print edition page numbers within the text and allows users to download articles; however, the article PDFs do not show the print pagination. While the online edition is easy to use, it's best for specific searches. Browsers will get the most out of the print edition.
VERDICT A nice supplement to Macmillan Reference's Encyclopedia of Education that will be of interest to those engaged in soft research involving education, as well as to graduate and undergraduate psychology and sociology students.
