Maris has a great life in a posh San Francisco suburb, good friends, and all of the amenities of modern life. Everything is turned on its head when her daughter Calla is murdered. The boy accused of the crime is put on trial and jailed. His father, Ron, decides that the one thing he can give Maris is his own life and calls her from the Golden Gate Bridge moments before he plans to jump to his death. This precipitous event sets Maris on a path that will change her life forever.
VERDICT Littlefield has written several domestic thrillers (The Missing Place; Garden of Stones), and this one is another entertaining read in that genre. Fans who are looking for something not quite as dark as Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl or Paula Hawkins's The Girl on the Train will enjoy this book.
