This is the 12th print edition of the online database that compiles an enormous amount of key information and resources about the environment and related causes in the United States. In addition to the usual set of updated entries, this volume also includes two additional reports: Annual Energy Outlook 2023 (authored by the Energy Information Administration) and Fiscal Year 2022–2023 Strategic Plan (authored by the EPA). It is well-organized; each category and its subdivisions are presented alphabetically, which facilitates quick lookups. To further aid users, it also includes a brief user guide, a helpful list of acronyms and abbreviations, and a glossary of environmental terms. There are three indexes: an index of entries, an alphabetical state-by-state index, and a subject-matter index. There’s also an entire section of current statistical reports authored by a wide range of environmental entities, which have attractive graphics.
VERDICT Libraries with low budgets would be well-served by acquiring this print edition about environmental issues. Those with serious research collections on environmental topics, however, will want to consider purchasing a subscription to the online database.
