The Consultant

A failed corporate merger and stock dive leads Craig Horne's company to call consulting firm BFG, said to be experts on bringing organizations back from financial and PR troubles. When the consultant arrives, his erratic behavior, violent outbursts, and draconian new policies set everyone on edge. Employees on lists for termination perish, and Craig fears that the consultant won't stop until everyone who opposes him is removed from their position permanently.
VERDICT Anyone who has ever worked at a large company will appreciate the sly horror Little (The Influence) presents of an efficiency expert run amok. The premise, while clever, wears out its welcome, especially as the consultant moves on to Craig's wife's urgent care clinic and repeats his unusual behavior there. This would have worked better as a chilling short story or novella.
