OrangeReviewStarCummins's latest terrifying psychological thriller is the edge-of-your-seat sequel to Rattle. This book takes up months after little Jakey Frith and Det. Etta Fitzroy escaped from serial killer Brian Howley. But another captive, Clara, is still missing and hoping someone will come and save her. Known also as the Bone Collector and the Butcher of Bromley, Howley has escaped from police custody and is back to terrorizing victims. He's changed his name to Mr. Silver, and since he's getting older, begins looking for an apprentice to carry on his sadistic work. When similar murders start to happen again, Etta has to find the Bone Collector and put him away for good. With a creepy and menacing undertone and one of the scariest antagonists ever, this is sure to give readers nightmares. Cummins excels at raising the level of dread and suspense, and this unpredictable, impossible-to-put-down read is dark, gripping, and eerie.
VERDICT Highly recommended for fans of Karin Slaughter and those who love well-written psychological thrillers.—Joni Gheen, McConnelsville, OH
