Mike Bowditch is determined to discover who attacked his mentor and friend Sgt. Kathy Frost in the Maine wilderness. Complications include Mike's lack of legal authority now that he has left the warden service and is working as a fishing guide, Kathy's alcoholic and depressed brother, a host of potential suspects, and the reappearance of a long-lost love. Doiron's (Massacre Pond) writing continues to be strong and sure, and his love of place remains evident. Henry Leyva's narration is excellent, employing a range of accents, including Maine deep woods and Virginia tidewater. A great addition to the series.
VERDICT Recommended for mystery readers and regional fiction fans.
