Sneaking a few pain pills to her cousin Jillian does not seem like a big deal to Misty, a pharmacy tech in Virginia Beach. Jillian is still in pain from her car wreck a few months ago, and Misty just wants to help her out. Then Jillian pressures Misty to get more opioids so they can sell them through Jillian's connections. Misty is hesitant until she realizes that Sanjay, her boss and owner of the small-town pharmacy, is doing the same thing but on a much larger scale. When the Mafia start coming for Sanjay, Jillian concocts a plan to get the women's share of the medical treasure chest. The DEA has its eye on Sanjay as well, throwing Misty in a more precarious situation and making Jillian's plan much more dangerous.
VERDICT Best-selling author Swinson (Dead on Arrival) has produced a decent, fast-paced story. The downward spiral in which the main character is enmeshed is compelling reading, though the characters seem a little flat and the ending is quite abrupt. Swinson's fans or those who like works by Nikki Turner will enjoy this book.
