Josie Fairmore returns to Forever, OR, as a college dropout with a secret: $70,000 in medical bills for Morgan, her son, who only lived 27 days. Josie begins working at Big Buck's, a bar run by her former boyfriend Noah Tager. Noah, a combat veteran, is distracted by Caroline, an AWOL marine who is fearful that her dishonorably discharged commanding officer is stalking her because she accused him of rape. Noah is wrangling with his concerns for both women, while Josie struggles with her feelings for him. Josie believes she loves Noah but continually refers to him as a jerk. Stone (Running Wild) is the author of two additional series: "Independence Falls" and "Sin City SEALS."
VERDICT The multiple plots involving post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), family secrets, and second chances are weakened by lackluster writing that fails to provide any glimmer of hope. Josie is stuck and ends up making the same missteps again.
