OrangeReviewStarThis rousingly deserving multiple film festival winner features a truly earth-rocking performance by Stephen Louis Grush as Jacob, a 27-year-old man with autism. Shawna Waldron is warm and relatable as Erin, Jacob's sister and caretaker. When Erin discovers that there is life and the potential for romance outside of her role as Jacob's companion, she is caught in a familiar battle between duty and desire. The camera angles and lighting are spot-on in depicting Jacob's condition, while the dialog assists in reinforcing his insulation and Erin's isolation. The original score by Timo Elliston seamlessly integrates the emotions with the visuals.
VERDICT While some of the dialog surrounding Jacob's disability seems deliberate and awkward, this is still a poignant window on the internal debate experienced by caretakers and their ability to balance the desire for a life of their own with their caregiver responsibilities. This film packs an emotional wallop; best have tissues ready!
