This practical, thorough work, edited by Peery (director, UTA FabLab, Univ. of Texas at Arlington Libs.), provides a wealth of information about makerspaces in university libraries. The contributors, who all work with academic makerspaces, discuss creating learning outcomes and teaching makerspace staff members to train users. The texts emphasize the importance of outreach to ensure that a makerspace becomes an integral part of the community; there is plenty of helpful information here about collaborating with faculty members in various fields to create and run a space that is incorporated into the curriculum. In addition, a number of contributors stress that there is always more to learn about how to improve makerspace services.
VERDICT This detailed, thoughtful book will be useful to librarians and faculty members interested in the nuts and bolts of creating and running a successful makerspace within an academic library.
