OrangeReviewStarIn this third installment in the series about three friends who share an apartment, Abby Sullivan is the daughter of the owner of a multi-billion-dollar hedge fund. Abby works for her daddy, or so it seems. In reality, Dad has cracked under the pressure, and Abby is keeping things together in secret. Russell Hart and his brother own their own small construction company, and Russell has to work hard for a living. As the pressure mounts in Abby's work life, she discovers something that Russell has been hiding: he desires her not as a friend but as a lover yet has told himself that he isn't worthy of her. Innocent Abby is slow to figure out what he wants and even slower to figure out what she wants. Once she does, she goes after Russell with everything she has, and he can't resist.
VERDICT The charm in this story by Bailey (Chase Me; Need Me), and there is plenty of it, is in the relationships among the three women. Their friendship is rock solid, and they support one another every step of the way. The women share fun banter, but the repartee between Russell and Abby is especially enjoyable. They are both sweet in their cluelessness and also very naughty as they figure out who they are. This new adult romance has depth, heart, and a lot of playfulness, but it also delivers the message that love works best when the partners find their equal places in the relationship.
