Best known for The Party, Day offers listeners a tense psychological suspense novel about a seemingly perfect couple and their housemate, who live in London. Marisa and Jake are trying to have a baby, and they invite a lodger named Kate to live with them to save on rent. Kate seems like the perfect fit until she becomes overly interested in Marisa and Jake’s affairs. As Marisa grows suspicious, she begins to look into who Kate really is, which may ultimately destroy the perfect life she thought that she had with Jake. Day weaves a tangled web of writing full of twists throughout the novel that will leave listeners enthralled and anxious. In addition, the story sheds much-needed light on the ups and downs of a couple struggling with infertility. Narrator Tanya Reynolds, with her elegant English accent, delivers raw emotions from each personality, but her breathy transitions take a bit of getting used to.
