In her first book,
JOMO Knits, Boggis promoted knitting as a way to embrace what she called JOMO (the “joy of missing out”) by recognizing the contentment delivered by an evening with yarn, needles, and a cup of tea. In this newest book, she returns to the concept of de-stressing through the soothing practice of knitting. The book is divided into three sections of techniques, patterns, and concepts, starting with “Absolute Beginners,” where Boggis introduces the novice to simple skills like holding yarn and casting on. “Time To Explore” is the section for those ready for multiple colors, brioche, and chart reading. Advanced techniques like lacework and brioche increases and decreases are introduced in “Beyond Basics.” Each pattern includes helpful photos and a list of techniques, with the page number where each skill is explained—a format that minimizes knitter frustration. Along the way, Boggis’s “Top Tips” provide reminders and reassurance to knitters; one such tip is to remember that the holes created by yarn overs might look scarily large but will resolve themselves.
VERDICT Knitters from beginner to experienced will break out their needles and yarn to cast on these rewarding patterns.
