Spear writes a second entry (following
You Had Me at Wolf) in her series about shapeshifting brothers Landon and Blake Wolff (a spin-off of her “Silver Town Wolf” series. Veterinarian Gabrielle Lowe agreed to meet her friends at a ski resort in Silver Town, CO, despite her fear of snow and ice stemming from a traumatic event in childhood. When she arrives, she discovers the resort is owned and staffed by wolf shifters like her. It isn’t long before she catches the eye of Landon Wolff, co-owner of the resort, when she goes swimming after hours. When Landon discovers her friends have been held up by work, he volunteers to teach Gabrielle how to ski and works with the rest of Silver Town to convince her that they need her as their new veterinarian. But Gabrielle has been a lone wolf her whole life, and no matter how much she’s beginning to feel for Landon, she’s not sure she’s ready to uproot her life, even to have a pack and mate of her own.
VERDICT This feel-good holiday read has a few subplots that fizzle out (someone Gabrielle dated briefly pursues her intensely, then is dropped without explanation, and her friends solve a mystery with no real suspense; plus, Gabrielle’s fear of snow and ice is glossed over) but Spear’s many fans will be waiting to read about the Wolffs, so libraries should purchase accordingly.
