Popular historian Snow (A Measureless Peril) delivers an entertaining account of Henry Ford's life with an emphasis on his rise to fame and technological achievement. Ford grew up a reluctant farm boy with a fascination for steam engines and a certain charm that attracted willing helpers. This gift for enticing talented associates aided Ford's success and made his early partners rich. Snow's narrative helps the listener appreciate how profoundly the Model T changed society and the workplace. The book leaves most of the acrimonious decline of Ford's career to an epilog. Narrator Sean Runnette gives a solid performance.
VERDICT This excellent biography is recommended for libraries with popular biography and business collections. ["Although not groundbreaking, Snow's readable biography would be a good fit for young adults and newcomers to the Ford legacy," read the somewhat less enthusiastic review of the Scribner hc, LJ 3/1/13.—Ed.]
