This volume delves into the relatively new concept of deepfakes, which use artificial intelligence to alter meaning. The book is divided into 25 chapters, each covering an aspect of deep fakes creations and detection and in highly technical terms. More careful editing would have corrected awkward sentence structures and phrasing that detracts from the content. A highlight, however, are the numerous illustrations—black-and-white and several in color—throughout. References for further reading are provided at the end of each chapter as well as in a compilation at the end of the book. There are 77 contributors listed, all of whom work in South Asia and West Asia universities. The book contains a biography for each contributor. This is IGI Global’s latest addition to the “Advances in Multimedia and Interactive Technologies (AMIT)” series.
VERDICT The intended audience appears to be computer engineers or IT professionals, not general readers. This book’s reach and technical jargon limit it from being an essential or recommended purchase.
