Six-year-old Coy is quite the charmer. Whether caught bouncing around wearing her pink butterfly wings or playing with friends in her Colorado neighborhood, she is a natural on camera for director Juhola. She and her family came to be the subjects of this documentary when their school district chose to ban Coy, born male, from using the girls' bathroom at her school. For Coy's parents, allowing filmmakers to follow their daily lives isn't a fame-grabbing ploy. Their lack of media slickness makes for an intimate, honest portrayal of a family whose support of their child leads them to a court battle.
