This second in the “Prentice Brothers of Sweet Ridge” series by Flockton (
One Hot Texas Summer) sees middle brother Tyler set to kick off the winery he’s always dreamed of owning. Assigned to his marketing campaign is Gianna Lucchia, who recently lost a big account and needs this event to succeed as much as Tyler does. Intense physical attraction fuels their desire for each other and keeps them coming back to each other despite their differences. Disagreements and misunderstandings abound, as they try to figure out how to work with each other so they both get what they need. And while Gianna seems to insult everyone in the community with her blunt reactions to their small-town ways, Tyler makes a very large misstep when he believes the rumors instead of asking for her side of the story. Ultimately, the resolutions to their problems seem rushed and untenable.
VERDICT This story makes it difficult to root for the characters to achieve their happily ever after, and readers might have a difficult time understanding why (beyond the physical chemistry) they are attracted to each other in the first place. This one wants to hit all the right notes, but it doesn’t quite get there.
