In Jazz Age America, Piott (Daily Life in the Progressive Era) examines Prohibition, social expectations for women, Jim Crow, and, of course, flappers and jazz. In 1960s Counterculture, journalist Willis (journalism, Azusa Pacific Univ.) explores protest movements, the Vietnam War, the pill, the civil rights movement, and the rise of television. In both volumes, occasional photos and primary source material, along with extensive bibliographies, enhance the scholarly yet accessible text.
VERDICT Will probably see most use in high school or college libraries. Those in need of a deep dive into the Roaring Twenties or the Swinging Sixties will appreciate these titles.
