This documentary, narrated by Grey's Anatomy's Chandra Wilson, aptly represents the gamut that is autism. Divided into thematic chapters (e.g., What Is Autism, Diagnosis, Discipline, Financial Costs, etc.), the film features short vignettes covering a large cross-section of "autism families" representing a variety of ages, races, genders, and abilities. Interviews with parents, individuals with autism, and autism experts explore such hot-button topics as bullying, employment, marriage, diet, and more, but also emphasize the need to focus on hope and acceptance.
VERDICT Honest and heartfelt, this DVD is a suitable jumping-off point for discussion of the impact of autism on society and of autism awareness. Highly recommended for public libraries.
