Edward Crawdon, Duke of Hartride, goes to Ireland at his mother's behest, supposedly to visit her longtime friends, the Earl and Countess of Ranford. He is dismayed to learn that the real reason he is there is to meet Caroline—his intended. Edward doesn't want to be forced into marriage and requests to be released from the contract. He can't help but be drawn to Rebecca, Caroline's younger sister. She is the exact opposite of Caroline—fiery and daring—and Edward knows she would not make an ideal duchess. Rebecca is baffled when Edward inspires feelings she has never experienced before, despite his arrogance and overbearing attitude. When the sisters visit London, Edward must confront his feelings for Rebecca. Unfortunately, Beverley A. Crick's narration can be difficult to follow; the voices can be hard to distinguish from one another.
VERDICT Despite a predictable plot, the story does have some laugh-out-loud moments. Those seeking a clean Regency romance may find that this title fits their needs.
