Last year's Nantucket Christmas from Thayer featured Nicole Somerset, her family, and a charming dog. This year readers get to meet Nicole's friends and neighbors, Jilly and George, along with their family and a recently adopted cat. Jilly and George's daughter, Felicia, is getting married on the island at Christmastime as a concession to her mother, who has never understood Felicia's free-spirited, adventurous lifestyle or her decision to live out West. Felicia knows her mom wishes she were more like her sister Lauren, who has followed a much more traditional path. Jilly is also convinced that Felicia's childhood friend Stephen would be a much better match for her than the hulking, outdoorsy Archie. Despite several mishaps and misunderstandings, the family manages to have a joyful Christmas.
VERDICT For fans of domestic fiction, Thayer vividly depicts the joys and frustrations of family life against the beautiful Nantucket backdrop.
