Contractor Shannon Hammer runs a home-renovation company in the seaside town of Lighthouse Cove, CA. She's more interested in her business than dating, despite the best efforts of her friend Lizzie to set up a series of blind dates for her. After Shannon engages in a very public dispute while on a date with real estate broker Jerry Saxton, he ends up dead. The new police chief, who also happens to be a hunky Norse god look-alike, thinks Shannon might have something to do with Jerry's death as the murder weapon was one of her signature pink tools. When Shannon's annoying and vexatious tenant turns up dead with another pink tool close by, things look difficult. On the plus side, though, Shannon's love life may get a boost when a best-selling author moves into the lighthouse and wants Shannon to renovate it.
VERDICT Light and frothy, this new series launch by the author of the "Bibliophile" mysteries makes for perfect escapist cozy fare. Recommended for fans of Susan Wittig Albert and Rosemary Harris.
