This solid video concentrates on common mistakes in youth baseball fielding, base running, and hitting while providing techniques to enable the coach to teach the game in a manner that is both instructive and fun. Each of the mistakes is handled as a separate chapter and can be easily accessed from the main menu. Since the overall program is brief, coaches may choose to run the video occasionally as a checklist of potential errors to address in their team's preparation. Parents and players will find the equipment chapters valuable for choosing properly sized bats, gloves, and catcher's equipment. The program is well done, fairly priced, and recommended for coaches, parents, and public library youth sports collections.—Cliff Glaviano, formerly with Bowling Green State Univ. Libs., OH
Gr 6 Up—This concise tutorial illustrates both the correct and the incorrect manner in which errors in baseball skills can be identified and remedied. These mistakes occur in a variety of common situations: hitting, fielding, pitching, running, selecting equipment, and coaching young players. Players incorrectly demonstrate the particular skill and then show the proper method of executing that specific proficiency. Each of the 44 mistakes is individually accessible, making this film particularly useful for coaches, athletes, and parents interested in helping their young athletes. While this film is general in terms of topics covered, Marty Schupak has several other programs available which go into more detail on these topics. While the young athletes featured all appear to be Caucasian, this should in no way limit the use of this well-produced program.—Dwain Thomas, formerly Lake Park High School, Roselle, IL
