This directory lists state agencies (not found in most other directories), U.S. government agencies and departments, public policy associations, and also the names of current members of Congress and their contact information. The content, however, is minimal, compared with that found in the Washington Information Directory. This book lacks a list of cabinet members; the editor doesn't include an introduction to explain the selection of content, nor are the major U.S. government Internet portals cited (e.g., usa.gov, whitehouse.gov). Organizational, keyword (broadly arranged by subject), and geographic indexes provide the material's main points of access.
VERDICT Though it has a higher cost—it is printed on better quality paper—the Washington Information Directory contains much more useful information and serves as the gold standard of government and political directories. Libraries should stick with that invaluable, frequently thumbed-through reference work.
