Unfortunately, neither the dynamics of village life nor the threats to the protagonists’ lives feel particularly grounded in reality here, and the romance between the two leads lacks substance.
Though the romance is a bit stronger than the suspense with this one, readers who have enjoyed Whiddon’s (Texas Rancher’s Hidden Danger) other Getaway, TX, novels will be satisfied with this one as well.
Readers who grew up watching spy dramas filled with undercover ops may enjoy this ordinary person–turned–undercover spy romance. While the story requires some suspension of disbelief, the characters are likable, and the romance doesn’t feel like too much of a stretch.
