The second installment in the "Redwood Ridge" stories (after Puppy Love) delivers a steamy romance. The interchange of sign language and verbal speech adds interest and dimension to an otherwise thin plot; however, some odd turns of phrase may prove jarring for readers. The main conflict in the relationship (Flynn's concern that Gabby has sublimated her own wants and needs to accommodate his) rings a little too true for comfort.

This stand-alone novel from Moran (Exposure; "Phantom Trilogy") is a well-written story about two high school friends who succeed personally and professionally. The author keeps readers turning the pages through strong characters, an intriguing plot and subplots, and solid writing. An entertaining playbook on how to win at love and work.

Moran's third novel (after The Drake House and Summer's Road) humorously captures the challenges of living within a large, extended family, for examply, Emily, the precocious three-year-old niece, is quick to identify every four-letter word she overhears during adult conversations. In addition, each chapter begins with witty Life Lessons According to Camryn, such as on the day she was fired: "Some people are like Slinkies. They're only good for a smile when you push them down the stairs." Great escape reading.
