Laney (The Little Book of Pride: The History, the People, the Parades) provides pithy write-ups of 366 people with a place in queer history. Selections skew slightly British but reach worldwide, from artistic powerhouses (Michelangelo; Lily Tomlin) to relative youngsters (Jazz Jennings; Lil Nas X) to the occasionally speculative (Sappho; James Dean) and a few marked as allies (Princess Diana; Madonna). Each half-page bio includes notable achievements, personality points, and why the person is featured on that day. MacMillan-Scott’s vivid portraits contribute immensely, often featuring props (a tennis racquet; a microphone), smiles, and facial expressions of lives well lived. VERDICT Not meant to be a “best of” but a compilation of people who have contributed to LGBTQIA+ culture worldwide. Recommended for all libraries.
