John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is a powerful man. The Duttons have owned the enormous Yellowstone Ranch for generations and have influenced much of what happens in Wyoming. Unfortunately, the family seems to have everything but happiness. John's four adult children compete with one another for his approval, with troubled daughter Beth (Kelly Reilly) using alcohol to help with her personal demons and son Kayce (Luke Grimes) wanting his father to accept the choices he has made. Kayce's young son, Tate, is the only grandchild, and John strives to build a relationship with Tate, revealing a more gentle man than the one who dominates their difficult, often dangerous world. John battles once friendly politicians, land developers, and a power-hungry local tribal leader, all of whom threaten his way of life and legacy.
VERDICT Complicated, violent, and tension-filled, this series for adults should appeal to Western fans as well as those who enjoy family drama.
