Liberty Holloway, 19, is already a widow, having lost her husband during the Battle of Bull Run. On July 1, 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg breaks out, and Liberty's inn is turned into a makeshift hospital for wounded enemy Confederate soldiers. She does what she can for the doctors, assisting them with amputations and giving what comfort she can to the fallen, including Johnny, who is not who he claims to be. Will she lose her heart?
VERDICT Well-developed characters and attention to detail make this a winning sophomore entry (after Wedded to War) in Green's historical series. Fans will be pleased. Recommend it to readers of Gilbert Morris.
